Sustainability for Lot Design, Preparation, and Development
Preservation of native landscaping with significant efforts made to reduce site impacts to only the immediate area of building construction. We work to have a landscape plan that seeks to cause the least possible disturbance to the site, while enhancing your enjoyment of and connection to the natural beauty and richness of the land to yield greater appreciation of nature and the outdoors in general. In order to be a good neighbor, outdoor lighting can be designed to minimize the amount of light leaving the site. We can work with your architect and landscape architect to use existing vegetation to shade all new driveways and pathways, structures, thereby minimizing heat buildup and energy consumption.
Energy Strategies
Chanen can lead work sessions with the design team to maximize natural ventilation and strategic placement of windows to allow light and create views without admitting unwanted heat or cold. The use of high performance windows help reduce the transmission of unwanted heat and cold.
Recycled Building Materials
We can help find a wide array of building materials that contain recycled content, such wall and roof insulation with at least 30% post-consumer recycled content and gypsum wall board with up to 95% recycled content. Also by using durable building materials such as steel and concrete, maintenance requirements are reduced which consequently minimize energy, chemical, and resource consumption.
Your Indoor Air Quality
We will work with the design team to find building materials that have no or low emissions of harmful gasses. Cheaper wood products such as particleboard, plywood, fiberboard and other pressed woods contain significant amounts of formaldehyde. While these products are cost-efficient for low-cost production homes, there are better choices for luxury custom homes. Chanen Estate Homes works with masonry, steel, concrete and hardwoods to assure a lasting, natural and healthy home.
